Curb Drains are both less likely to clog and easier to maintain than traditional gutter drains. Compared to gutter drains with large grates, bicycle tires won’t get caught in them.
In addition, the stormwater can be more easily directed to swales and underground cisterns to allow stormwater to infiltrate into the soil, rather than be carried to a wastewater processing plant. Infiltration is both beneficial for the environment, and saves municipalities money.
In settings like plazas and parking lots, drains can also double as “green infrastructure” (see Cool City Drain)
